Masonry Repairs
Conventional masonry repairs are treated as part of the conservation process. Only stonework that is structurally unsound is replaced and a qualified engineering approach is applied. This is based on a familiarity of masonry profiles and knowledge of historic constructional methods. Cracked and spalled limestone, sandstone, marble, terra cotta, and cast stone or concrete materials should be repaired to prevent further deterioration. The repair material should match the original material in color, texture, tooling, and all dimensions and visual qualities. In the case of severe deterioration, individual units may need to be replaced.
Restoration of your existing masonry is the best way to improve your building’s appearance. This may also help to restore the structural dependability of your building. As with any building product, masonry is subject to weathering. Constant exposure to acid rain, building settlement, thawing and freezing cycles, seismic movement, impact damage and dirt take their toll on a building. Masonry restoration is needed to restore the building to its original look. Masonry restoration includes everything from the replacement of common bricks to the replacement of carved stone.
